Museo del Origami is Expanding!

Dear origami friends,
We are thrilled to share the exciting news. The Museo del Origami in Colonia, Uruguay is expanding!
Perla Myers* and Jeff Myers have established FOLDS (Forum for Origami Learning, Design and STEAM Engagement), a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the United States. Through this foundation, they have been the primary donors for the purchase of the property adjacent to the museum, for USD $125,000.
The generous contribution by Perla and Jeff will allow the museum to expand and offer new activities.
For the first time, we will be able to accommodate the library, which already holds thousands of books and invaluable historical documents, including the archives of Gershon Legman and Samuel Randlett, along with Roy Iwaki’s mask stencils.
Another room will host origami workshops, and a third will be reserved for an artist-in-residence program.
The future of the Museo del Origami looks promising, and we are ready to begin the renovations needed to make the space fully functional.
We estimate that costs may reach USD $40,000–$50,000 to renovate the roof, floors, and walls, as well as lighting, heating, and basic furnishings, including library shelving, tables, and chairs.

*About Perla Myers: she is Executive Director of the Jacobs Institute for Innovation in Education within the School of Leadership and Education Sciences at the University of San Diego. She has worked extensively on visual approaches to learning geometry through origami, which informs her commitment to supporting the growth of this project. Jeff is Perla's husband.
